Digital Radiology / Ultrasound

X-Rays

To help diagnose illness or injury, we use advanced digital radiology (X-ray) technology. High-quality digital X-rays allow our veterinarians to view detailed images of your pet’s internal structures, aiding in accurate diagnosis and treatment. If a more specialized interpretation is needed, we collaborate with board-certified radiologists and other veterinary specialists to review your pet’s images.

We also utilize digital dental radiography to take detailed X-rays of your pet’s teeth and jaw. These images are essential for identifying dental disease hidden below the gum line—conditions that may not be visible during a routine oral exam.

Ultrasound

At Anchor Animal Hospital, we’re proud to offer ultrasound exams as part of our advanced diagnostic services. Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique that allows us to examine internal organs and structures with precision and clarity.

Abdominal Ultrasound
Abdominal ultrasounds are incredibly useful in diagnosing a wide range of conditions, including (but not limited to):

  • Bladder stones

  • Kidney disease

  • Gastrointestinal obstructions

  • Liver and spleen issues

  • Pancreatitis

  • Internal bleeding

  • Tumors

This procedure can often replace the need for exploratory surgery. It's also an effective way to confirm pregnancy in dogs, typically about four weeks after breeding.

Cardiac Ultrasound (Echocardiography)
Echocardiograms—ultrasound exams of the heart—are routinely used to diagnose and monitor heart disease in pets. These exams allow us to assess the heart’s structure and blood flow patterns, helping us distinguish between minor issues, like a mild leaking valve, and more serious conditions, such as heart dilation.

A Comfortable, Pet-Friendly Experience
We have a dedicated ultrasound room designed to keep exams quiet and stress-free. Most pets tolerate ultrasound exams very well—some even get so relaxed on our soft beds and “couches” that they fall asleep mid-procedure! In most cases, we will shave a small area of fur to ensure clear imaging, as hair can interfere with ultrasound quality.

Ask Us About Ultrasound for Your Pet
If you think your pet may benefit from an ultrasound, please don’t hesitate to call us or ask during your next visit. We’re happy to answer your questions, and in many cases, can perform ultrasounds the same day as your appointment.
